Day 1 I Nairobi - Mount Kenya
We will fly to the Kenyan capital, Nairobi. Upon arrival, we will receive our safari vehicle with an open roof, specially designed for safari expeditions, and head north towards the Mount Kenya region. Upon arrival, we'll settle in a hotel located at the foot of the second-highest peak of Mount Kenya. We will embark on a unique safari walk to observe wildlife making their way towards the magical Lodge. The Lodge is adjacent to a special water reservoir near the Lodge, attracting a variety of fascinating wild animals visible from the Lodge's terrace.
Day 2 I Mount Kenya to Samburu Reserve
In the morning, we'll leave the Mount Kenya region and head north towards the Samburu Nature Reserve. On our way to the reserve, we will stop at a point marking the equator near the town of Nanyuki. Continuing through traditional African villages, we'll arrive at the nature reserve. After lunch at the enchanting Lodge, we'll embark on our first "Safari Drive." We may witness giant crocodiles basking in the African sun, unique reticulated giraffes bending down to drink from the water holes, or Grevy's zebras with their distinctive thin stripes. We'll also encounter herds of graceful impalas and the captivating Samburu tribe managing a nomadic lifestyle in the heart of the northern savannah. We'll return to the Lodge in the evening.
Day 3 I Samburu Nature Reserve
A full day dedicated to the northern nature reserve, where we will begin our search for the "Big Five": lion, leopard, African elephant, buffalo, and rhinoceros. After a hearty breakfast, we'll set out into the vast savannah. We hope to spot a leopard hanging from a tree, lion cubs playing alongside their lioness mother, or witness a procession of African elephants crossing the savannah, gathering enormous amounts of food every day. We'll return to the Lodge for lunch and enjoy a midday break, much like the animals seeking shelter from the scorching midday sun. In the late afternoon, we'll embark on another Safari drive to observe nocturnal wildlife activities.
Day 4 I Samburu Nature Reserve to Lake Nakuru
In the morning, we'll leave the northern savannah and begin our journey south towards Lake Nakuru, one of the most beautiful and green spots on our African expedition. Upon reaching the reserve in the afternoon, we'll head out for another Safari drive. We may witness herds of Rothschild's giraffes approaching us, and if lucky, they might expose their sharp teeth. Alternatively, we'll approach the large lake and observe the giant hippos spending most of the day in the cool lake waters. There's a chance to see rhinos and their small calves, using their sensitive ears to detect our approach. However, the highlight of the day will undoubtedly be the breathtaking view of the lake, where we'll see the large pink spot left by the nesting flamingos within the vast soda lake.
Day 5 I Lake Nakuru Reserve to Sweetwaters Tented Camp
In the morning, we'll leave the Nakuru region and head back towards the foothills of Mount Kenya, home to one of the most interesting reserves in Kenya. The Sweetwaters Reserve is unique due to the presence of a considerable number of wild animals in a relatively small area. Established in 1995, orphaned chimpanzees from Burundi were brought here and now live in a private natural reserve. Sweetwaters Tented Camp was established on the foundations of a former colonial farm. It features a luxurious tented camp near the large waterhole, attracting a significant portion of the "Big Five" for a drink.
Day 6 I Sweetwaters Tented Camp to Maasai Mara
In the morning, we'll leave the small reserve and embark on a southern journey to the largest and most famous nature reserve in the country: the Maasai Mara Nature Reserve, one of the most beautiful and captivating reserves in the world. During the rainy season, millions of wildebeest, zebras, and gazelles cross the Mara River, and predators follow, creating one of the most spectacular natural events on the planet. The reserve is home to a wide range of animals, including the "Big Five" and various species of birds. We'll enter the reserve and head to our lodge for lunch, followed by an afternoon Safari drive, hoping to witness some of the incredible wildlife encounters that the Maasai Mara is known for.
Days 7-8 I Maasai Mara Nature Reserve
Over the next two days, we will get to know the daily lives of the many animals surviving against numerous predators or navigating the quest for food. After the morning Safari drive in the Maasai Mara Nature Reserve, we'll have the opportunity to meet the Maasai people, easily recognizable by their traditional attire and unique villages. We'll visit a Maasai village, learning about their fascinating way of life and the semi-nomadic lifestyle of the tribe members, along with their traditional clothing. We may even hear women singing blessing songs and men jumping to impressive heights during initiation ceremonies. Towards the end of the eighth day, we'll head to the last nature reserve on our journey, Lake Naivasha Nature Reserve, for a final Safari drive before the return home.
Day 9 I Lake Naivasha to Nairobi
This morning, we'll leave Lake Naivasha and embark on the journey back to the capital city, Nairobi. On our way back, we'll have the opportunity to visit an elephant orphanage, where efforts are made to rehabilitate orphaned elephants whose parents fell victim to poachers. From there, we'll proceed to Nairobi, the capital city, where we may have time to explore the unique African market and purchase souvenirs. Before heading to the airport, we'll enjoy an unforgettable farewell meal at one of the local restaurants. We'll then proceed to the airport for our flight.
